Location

Located in the Kosciuzko National Park, Thredbo is only a 2-1/2 hour drive south of Canberra and a 6 hour drive from Sydney. Once you reach Jindabyne, the gateway to the mountains, you are only 31 kilometres away form Australia’s longest ski runs.

How To Get There

First choose your mode of transport from your state, including flights to Canberra or Cooma, Coach or Self Drive.

FLY/COACH: Most major airlines service Canberra Airport from major Australian cities. Canberra Airport is a 2.5 hour drive from Thredbo. Cooma Airport is approximately 1 hour from Thredbo and is serviced by Regional Express Airlines. Relax and let someone else do the driving as coach transfers to and from both airports can be arranged.

SELF DRIVE: The Alpine Way from Jindabyne to Thredbo is fully sealed and it is recommended that you carry chains. At times of heavy snowfalls you can be directed to fit chains by officials of the National Parks and Wildlife Services. Chains can be hired in Jindabyne. A National Park Entry Fee is applicable to all vehicles entering, which is paid on arrival.

Parking at Thredbo

Thredbo offers designated day and overnight car parks. Many lodges, apartments, hotels and chalets have on-site parking but for those that don’t, overnight parking is available at Friday Flat and there is a free shuttle bus that operates throughout Thredbo at regular intervals from 7.30am – 9pm (midnight on Friday and Saturday nights).

Whats New For 2008

Thredbo has further increased the capacity of their already mighty snowmaking system. This summer $1.5 million was invested completing stage three of fully automating the system. Efficient automated snow guns were added to the World Cup trail, that runs parallel to the famous Supertrail. This enhancement will also see improved coverage of the runout of popular Little Beauty and True Blue trails. The three stage automation process has seen close to $6 million being spent and the results are staggering. Close to triple the amount of snow can now be produced over pre-automated days. This winter it is anticipated the system will produce approximately 500,000 cubic metres of snow, that is equal to covering 50 average size football fields with over a metre of snow. Thredbo now have snowmaking on runs for every level of snow rider, so even when Mother Nature hits the snooze button you can still enjoy great snow riding conditions!
